My friend emailed this pic to me. I googled my guesses with no helpful results, help please!

I googled and some celosia plants have coloration of the leaves like that, and some have sort of that shape. That's a good suggestion, thanks!

It has bloomed, and she says it's a celosia! She never planted any, and certainly not one that grows chest-high Smiling I asked her for a bloom pic, hopefully I'll get one

Wow, those leaves of that Celosia are gorgeous! Did your friend say what the flowers looked like? The leaves remind me of those in the Cristata group. Two photos from our database for comparison:

She saved seeds for me and gave me a bag with long dried panicles, so it wasn't a "brainy" one :)

Maybe a variety of Wheatstraw Celosia (Celosia spicata) ?
