Hi, we planted an Azalea in a large pot several months ago and it was doing fine for a while. But now it seems to be dying and I cannot figure out what's wrong. See the photos. I don't think it's a watering problem. The soil is neither dry nor very wet. We have lots of other plants in pots that are in similar light/soil/watering conditions and are doing fine. Several mushrooms have grown out if the soil underneath the Azalea... I don't know if that's significant or not.

Any ideas on what's going on here?

Thank you! Bryan

Welcome!

From the silvery effect on the leaves it could be a pest problem. Is the plant outdoors or in the house? Check the undersides of the leaves for small insects or mites. If you don't see anything, shake a branch onto plain white paper to see if any come out.

I agree

Lace bugs is what I was thinking too, hence whether the plant is inside or outside.

The plant is outside. What the remedy for lace bugs, if that's the issue?

There's also this from the U of Maryland Extension:

I would try and confirm their presence first though.

For what it is worth, I had 36 rooted starts that thrived for 2 years. And they all suddenly died, No sign of disease or insects I could see. The leaves had been healthy and the soil seemed sweet and good when I pulled the plugs out after. Mystery...
