Ask a Question forum: Albuca bracteata (Pregnant onion)

I purchased some pregnant onion "babies" off of eBay at the end of May 2017. They were all the same size when I purchased them but they have all grown at different rates.

One of the smallest appears to have a baby growing on it already. Is this normal? Will this mother plant survive?

Attached is a photo of the largest plant and also a photo of the small one that appears to have a baby growing under its skin.

Any input would be appreciated.

Hi Paula,

That's what pregnant onions do. They are always 'pregnant'. Smiling Don't worry about the size of the 'mommy' plant, it will be fine.

Thank you! I was just surprised that such a small plant would have a baby on it already. I don't want to lose the little momma plant.

I'm so proud of them! ❤️❤️
