Here is a beautiful long leafed plant I have growing in a pot that I want to transplant into the ground. I am not sure what it is so that I can determine where would be the best place to plant it.

Does anyone know the name of this plant?

Does it have flowers? It looks like there might be some blue flowers still on it or is that another plant? If it's what I think I'm seeing, then maybe a variegated Dianella like this one:

Thanks RJ and Sue for your suggestions.

Sue - I gave you an acorn tip because you named it! That is exactly what the flowers look like and the leaves are wider than the Sedge. And I also remembered the word, "Flax" being in the name of this plant after I saw your ID.

Thanks so very much! Thank You! Thank You!

Thanks for the acorn, Becky. Have you ever seen any rust on it?

Yes, on occasion, I have, but not often.

Interesting, since you grow daylilies. Dianella tasmanica (presumably not the variegated one but I don't know that) has been reported as hosting daylily rust. Both plants are in the same plant family (Hemerocallidaceae but I believe that is changing to Asphodelaceae this year) and both get daylily rust but the spores from one didn't affect the other in tests.

Sue - I get rust on a lot of plants because of the humidity here.

Yes, lots of plants get rust, there are something like 7,000 different species of plant rusts. I'm seeing rust on various plants here too, but the interesting thing was that you are seeing it on Dianella because it can get daylily rust, although it also has its own Dianella rust.

Sue - this rust wouldn't contribute to rust on my daylilies, would it?

I have not been seeing the amount of rust on my daylilies like I used to.

There's very little information about daylily rust on Dianella tasmanica but the tests that were reported said that although it was the same rust species, Puccinia hemerocallidis, the spores from daylily did not infect Dianella nor vice versa.

From pictures it looks as though the variegated D. tasmanica has lighter coloured blue flowers than the non-variegated? Since Dianella and Hemerocallis are related, both in the same plant family, just imagine if you could cross them and get the elusive blue daylily Smiling

It's too bad the blooms are not a lot bigger. Smiling
