Does anyone know if one of these 2 combos wxist color wise. I was thinking it would be pretty. The combos are: light pink fading into red, a pink fading into a blue (or mixed), last is light and dark pink.thanks..

Does this one match your idea of 'light and dark pink':

??
You don't know if it will grow until you try!

The best light and dark pink iris I know of is Ibiza. I don't know if it is available outside of Australia

I'm just curious to some of you who have studied the backgrounds of iris for breeding. If you wanted to lighten the standards but keep the color of the falls, what iris would you use for the pollen or pod parent? Do you think you would use a light pink?

That's a question for someone with a lot more experience then I have for sure. I haven't had enough crosses bloom to get any idea what will, or could happen. So far it's a crap shoot filled with surprises. I guess just try some things and see what happens.

Thank you Tom. I tip my hat to you.
I've read in posts that some study the pedigree of the iris. If I look at the pedigree, I don't know what to look for. Sighing!

I think someone said something like "use the best and newest" .....

There's a book "Breeding Red Irises" that may be of interest 🙂

Richard, I was browsing a website and found this and thought of your thread. then read your first post again and saw you were looking for red falls. Shrug! I thought this was pretty but other photo in the database shows the standards more peach color.

'red' in irises is really a purple shade from anthrsyan (sp) & the pinks a different color. The World of Irises put out by the AIS is a better read than Breeding red irises which is full of short cuts which don't really work.
