I rescued this houseplant from work. It was shrivelled and near death. Now it is looking healthier has new blooms but I don't know what it is. Clearly a purple hairy plant- no green at all. I've had various suggestions but I want to know definitively to be able to care for it properly. help!

Welcome!

It is a Tradescantia.

There is some controversy regarding the correct scientific name for this species, with certain authorities continuing to refer to it as Setcreasea purpurea or Setcreasea pallida. The comparatively more recent denomination Tradescantia pallidum appears to enjoy greater acceptance and wider usage at present. Most folks refer to it simply as Purple Heart.

It seems to be responding to your good care. Lots of direct sunlight will keep the plant compact and the leaves a deep purple color. It prefers to be moderately potbound with soil watered as soon as the surface feels dry. The stems are vining and will grow very long unless they are pruned back regularly. The tip cuttings are easy to root in water or damp soil.

Purple Queen (Tradescantia pallida) is the correct name and Setcreasea purpurea and Setcreasea pallida as synonyms.
