Trees and Shrubs forum: Transplanting a crepe myrtle?

I have two separate but related questions...

First, I would like to transplant a 15 foot crepe myrtle. Is this even likely to work? It has recently started growing white dusty fungus on some of the leaves. Would that interfere with transplantation?

Secondly...a willow tree (more like a shrub...not sure the exact species) is in the general area that I want to transplant the crepe myrtle. The willow has split bark and shelf fungus growing at the base of the trunk and is very close to dying. Many branches died suddenly mid-summer. I want to remove it. Is the soil now infested with fungus? If so, should I avoid transplanting the crepe myrtle to that area?

Thanks for any help!
