Hi all
Im inquiring about the possibility of doing some trading with folks on here. I'll seach the database as well for info on this subject, but would like a primer on going about it so I don't run afoul of any unspoken rules, or practices here.

Let me emphasize this: I got a ton of leftovers from this years retail season
Let me emphasize this: I got a ton of leftovers from this years season -- emphasizing again
Let me emphasize this: I got a ton of leftovers from this years season -- and yet again -- lol

I could post as list of what I got and what I want, but I dunno -- seems clumsy and greedy to me but then again, im a bit on the "different" side as far as my thinking goes. Any tidbits of info would be appreciated. I know its getting late for some of you to receive and plant new additions, but otherwise, the extras will go into the shredder, and I hate to do that and I don't want to just give them away :)

I do not have any TB iris to trade, just getting into TB. Do you want to sell some of your leftovers?

I'm not sure of protocols for trades here, but I think as long as the 2 parties reach an agreement & follow through in a timely fashion, it is between the 2 of you. I'm always ready for a trade, but most of mine are older iris

Welcome! to the Iris forum Frank. This is a good place to become addicted. Whistling I bought some rhizomes from Tim last year and he sent big, fat, beautiful rhizomes. All are growing well. Thumbs up

Welcome Frank. Enjoy the friendship and always good hints.

One protocol used is to offer for postage repayment; probably the most used. Trades are often thought of as "even" since each party has postage to pay for the package sent. Accept irises and not pay for the postage will put one in a very bad situation as to others on the forum, should I say avoided or blackballed? Had it happen about 5 years ago for a postage deal; did my research after the fact and found she had fraud charges against her! She never got onto the forum again.

I have seen posts where folks list their wants, then folks who have those Iris speak up with what they are looking for in trade. Or, have seen threads where a member lists both his/her wants and what he/she has available for trade. The trades are kept track either through postings on that thread or via individual treemail, with the thread initiator responsible for editing his or her list as varieties are no longer available. Some scan through a specific member's 'have' list AND 'want' list, then treemail the member with suggested trades. Lots of other ways, too. Really, as long as each member is courteous and respectful to the others, the process is fluid. Smiling

Another suggestion could be to list rhizomes for sale in the "Classifieds and Group Buys" forum.

.. I appreciate the insights -- thanks everyone. I probably should post a list and see if there's any interest. I just hate to trash these -- I'd rather they live in someone elses place and then if they thrive, that person will have more options for trading themselves. A win win situation!!
I've had a trading option incorporated into my business model since 2007, and I usually pay my own postage when sending to a member, but I'm definitely open for paying for the other sender's postages especially if its a trade containing some of my sought after/really want, varieties Smiling

I would list your wants in your NGA plant lists. Or here.

Tim - I think a list of your wants and a list of what you have to offer should be posted. That way people on this forum can trade with you and/ or do postage. It is fine to do a "Iris for trade" thread. As I got great iris from you last year I would love to see what is both wanted and what you have to offer.

I agree with Leslie. I think the only thing that is bothersome is when someones just joins the group and is fishing for free irises. Only to find later that they are selling them on E-bay. Or if the only time you see them on here is when people have irises to share. People willing to trade or send for postage are always OK. Smiling

ok, I will post a list of what I have to trade and see if there is any interest. I appreciate everyones thought, and now I have a idea of where people are on this. I just didn't want to jump in and do this without some back up info. Thanks everyone -- I appreciate the responses Thumbs up
