On April 8, 2024, the shadow of the moon will once again completely block out the sun across the United States, this time from Texas to Maine.

I hope we can see it. It will go through the area in Texas where our daughter lives.

It looks like we will have about the same percentage of eclipse that we did this year -- if I'm still able, maybe I'll travel to where it will be a total eclipse! Smiling

It's definitely worth it, Sandy. We had seen a number of partial eclipses, and this was our first total. It was really unique, a bit mysterious and sort of weird. I can see how the people in long ago times were worried and afraid the world was ending! We heard a funny story about a guy in the 1800's who was with some of his tribe members when it happened. He started doing a dance while it was in totality, and then it ended. His friends thought he was a God and had powers, so after that he was revered! They thought he had saved them.

I agree I couldn't understand why so many schools closed. This was the perfect time for some education and safety instruction. We saw eclipses when I was in school, and we all made the pinhole in the cardboard and had a great time.

I couldn't agree more, Karen -- a "teachable moment" if ever there was one!

The 2024 one will be the next one in the US, but there is one that will be on July 2, 2019, stretching over a wide swath of the Southern Pacific before passing across Chile and Argentina. If any of you have relatives in those countries, or want to travel, that would be a good time!
