This is my fig plant/tree. It does nothing. It's been doing nothing since last November. I don't ask much .. I don't even expect fruit.. but not even a leaf?

What the fig?

It's in a huge vase on the terrace .. got it from a nursery last fall. It was naked when I got it and it's still naked now.

Have you given it the scratch test to see whether it is still alive?

I did the pull test to see if it is still rooted in.. I figured if it was dead it would just pull right out of the soil.
I'll go scratch it now ... what am I looking for green underneath?

As you can see I'm a rookie when it comes to gardening. but I just love doing it so muchhhh!!!! I'm not good at it but I still love it.

Well, I scratched her ... now I'm no expert but from what I see .. I think I may have to make some funeral arrangements.

Sincere condolences on your loss. It is never easy to lose a loved one. Perhaps you should visit the nursery owners who were kind enough to sell you a half-dead, naked plant and invite them to the wake and the funeral. Go in person to invite them; take the dearly departed, late fig with you. Let the nursery owners know that if they cannot make it to the event that you intend to take out a full-page advertisement to let everyone know how wonderful their plants are...maybe they will make you an offer you can't refuse. Hey Daisy .. Hey Mr. Green.. Nice to read you again.

Please join me and hold hands... We are gathered here today to remember Figgy. He was the best walking stick any novice gardener could ask for. He never caused any trouble or asked for extra water... he never really did anything.... One sec.. I'm tearing up.. You'll be missed Figgy.

Figgy will be buried at the same nursery he was born.

Will definitely be having a conversation with the gentleman at the nursery he told me it will sprout leaves in the spring and that I could even plant it in the sand because fig trees grow anywhere. So If I'm able to kill a plant that can grow anywhere I better hang up my gardening shears now. Someone lied to me.
