Louisiana and Texas are good neighbors. Especially from NOLA which is about 6 hr drive away. We help each other out. We have a lot of previous NOLA residents who live here now after H. Katrina.

Glad they made it safely. Neighbors help neighbors...it is what we do. After H Katrina Texas sent dozens of telephone and electric linesmen and trucks and Texas took in hundreds of folks from New Orleans.

Y'all stay Texas strong and hope you remain high and dry. Group hug

Hello, everyone. High and dry here, at least as long as I don't go outside. As Legalily said mom passed away last Wednesday and the funeral was on Friday morning just as the first band of Harvey hit. Lots of rain off and on, some fairly heavy. It rains and the streets flood, it stops and streets drain and repeat. The eye is projected to pass right over us so the wind is starting to pick up. I think the worst of the rain is going to bypass us and stay to the north.

@ShadyGreenThumb — Yes, I would like to order a burger and fries. Thanks.

Say what? I don't remember any hurricane named Weedwhacker. Must have missed that one.

We did get a little rain off and on. Checked the rain gauge a couple hours ago and it had 1/2" in it, which is a nice amount. And hope it stays right there.

I saw where our local SPCA has taken in something like 300 cats & dogs. Then they said that some would be ready for adoption soon. What the what??? These are family pets. And I don't know if this is true about all SPCAs, but here it's NOT a 'no kill' shelter. Hope they will at least make an exception for these poor little evacuees that someone cared enough about to rescue.

Glad to hear you're okay, Jay, but sad to hear about the loss of your mother.

T_F_C_ Some of those pets that the SPCA has are probably evacuees from other shelters. I know our local animal control sent animals to San Antonio and Austin to save them from the flood.

@porkpal And our Austin Pets Alive is a no kill shelter. One of the volunteers out here asked for old towels they could use at the shelter. I think she's on her third run. When she first asked for towels, she suggested it was a good excuse for getting new ones! Great idea!

Hit send before ready.

Good to hear you're okay,Jay. I remember you posted pics of some flooding around your place a couple of years ago. I thought you might have had to evacuate. Sorry to hear sad news about your mom.

Jay, my sincere condolences on the loss of your mom. It's never easy. I guess you're an orphan now. We all seem to be when we lose a parent, no matter how old & grown up we are when we lose them.

I'm very glad to hear you're high & dry at least inside your home. Let's hope it just keeps draining off every time the rain lets up.

I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown

@stilldew - You're right. @Vossner hasn't checked in. I forgot she lives in the general Houston area. Maybe she doesn't have access to the internet. Let us know if you hear from her. Maybe I might go look on DG.

My brother is in Richmond and from what I understand they had a mandatory evacuation.

I'm in Richmond and many of the relatively recently built subdivisions have been evacuated, the older neighborhoods are mostly still okay. I don't know where Vossner lives. If she happens to live on Voss road, I think that area is not flooded.

I've been in touch with Vossner, she is safe.

We had a tiny but messy hurricane last year this time and while my home was not damaged those of our neighbors had significant issues, mostly from tornados. Within days hordes of fly by night "contractors" from all over the country showed up offering all sorts of services and they were charging exorbitant prices. For those of you whose homes (and lives) have been affected by this heartbreaking event, just be extra cautious as you begin to recover.
