I saw this growing in chaparral in southern California. Someone told me it's called goldenbush. I want to verify that and find the scientific name. It looks like it's probably some kind of Ericameria. Can anyone confirm that and maybe identify the species? Thanks.

If its actually Ericameria, its not one I'm familiar with. The native is Ericameria nauseosa and it looks completely different. I don't think its Goldenbush either as I remember those having daisy flowers.

Sorry, I'm not being much help.

Look at this plant: Western Goldenrod (Euthamia occidentalis). I see this all the time in moister spots in the desert. According to Calflora, you have it down there. There are a lot of seeps in the fault line so maybe you are seeing it in a seep? That's were we look for native terrestrial orchids. Smiling

Euthamia occidentalis looks like a good match. I'm not sure about the fault line, but the area was chaparral and I saw what looked like seasonal ponds, so the area probably gets a fair amount of water.

I think maybe this is Ericameria, after all. It looks like Parish's goldenbush (Ericameria parishii). Here's a link in CalPhotos:
