St. Johns Michigan a population of just short of 8,000 county seat of Clinton County. Located in the mist of some of the finest farm land in Michigan. the normal corn, soybeans and peppermint. Hence the Mint festival. Since it is just north of Lansing many worked in the Auto industry building Old's mobiles for many years, Till the demise of Oldsmobile. St. Johns is located about 50 miles west of Flint Michigan the home of Buick and Chevy production.

The cars were allowed into the down town area just after the main parade finished. The street runs north and south so I chose the west side of the street to set up so we would be in the shade as the sun settled in the west. The store we parked in front of was closed so we were able to duck into the entry way when it rained 3 different times during the 4 hour long show.

Trailtwister, I just noticed this thread...

I grew up in Jackson and remember our family going on summer vacations "up north," and can recall smelling the mint growing as we passed through that area. Smiling

You have a lot of great photos here already, and I'm not sure what you're actually planning to do with this thread, but just wanted to give you a "heads up" -- I can't remember if it was the beginning of this year or 2016, but pretty much everything here in the "sandbox" was purged by the admins. So, for things you wouldn't want to lose, I'd suggest utilizing the "blog" feature of the site. Smiling

(don't take that to mean I think there's anything wrong with posting whatever you want here, as well; it's just that some people were really scrambling to retrieve things they had posted when we were told about the upcoming purge.)

You should have some one put a title on this thread.
I love old cars, new cars most cars except front wheel drive crapwagons.
There was a post on a outdoor forum about best looking car and it has pages of opinions; even a thread on manual vs auto transmissions is pages long due to differences of opinion.

Here in Minn. we have two local, at least to me, within 70 miles, cars shows that push old and new cars.
Been too many years since I was there and if one goes better there well before gate opens or you will be walking a long ways to the gate.
But many times I wish I was closer to other areas where exotic street or hot rods are often shown.
Before I die I am going to get to the Woodward Dream Cruise.

To my amazement, a couple of months ago I was taking a service road off of U.S. 394/12, forty years ago it was a grungy service road, now it is a beautiful drive with heavy foliage, gardens and what is truly amazing how the business side can make a business look nice with landscaping.
There are several high buck car dealerships on that road and one can look at some autos you do not see in regular traffic very often.

I agree!

@Trailtwister -- you can use the "suggest a change" function at the bottom of the thread to request that the title be changed to whatever you want Smiling

I have a bunch of car show pictures posted there, used to make comment on all of them for people who have a problem telling a Dodge from a Plymouth.
But I posted one of a Buick a guy had a sign stateing what it was and caught all kinds of crap from Loyd so I no longer make comments exceopt for a very few.

I stopped posting here because seemed no one cared.

Yeah, the Greybeard forum , like most has taken a real hit.
It is odd how there can be a dork who you wish would just go away, then they do, and you miss their posts because general posting just stops.
The gardening thread there while not extremely busy had slow but continual returns; now except for myself and one other person, pretty much dead.

Poor Lloyd, who is very opinionated just took a real hit , so I feel sorry for him.
Gearheads are a dying breed and while I used to do a lot of my own work, my knee made squating hard to impossible but now that it is better, the urge to work on the cars is just not there any more.
It is amazing what happens when you stop doing something that was the norm for years. I often wondered how or why some would stop doing things we used to do.
Now I have a good idea.

Don't know what hit loyd as I haven't been there in a while. Last I was there he was bragging about all the crop damage permint deer he had killed.Dorks, pains in the butt,
argumentive people, and self proclaimed experts can go away and I do not miss them.

I had both Knees replaced last year starting with the left one April 12th and the right one August 23d. I had got to where I was side walking down hills, the stairs because it just hurt to much to walk down them normal.

I also found it painfull to get down and do work on my knees. Is still a bit difficult today but I keep a older boat seat cushion PFD iI use as a kneeling pad and it isn't bad at all.

I like working on my tractors and the Buick. Right now We are trying to find a person to paint it for us.
We knew up front it was not going to be cheap seeing as it needs stripped of all the old paint and that can't be done till all the chrome and stuff is removed.

I under stand people are useing face book now instead of forums and I was also told a couple days ago that there are goggle groups for different things that give you more freedom so they are replaceing forums.

I keep busy all year long and I happen to love winter.

RpR - I'm late to the game, but know you'd love the Woodward Dream Cruise. Bring a lawn chair and a cooler. Set yourself up near 13 Mile on Woodward. Car clubs will gather here & there and bring tent canopies for shade (for their cars!). Music everywhere, and OH THE CARS.
My husband and I grew up in Royal Oak in the 1950's-60's and went to school, cruised Woodward, gathered at the drive thru restaurants that were once there. We all had the need for speed back then (no drugs involved to have a good time). It was an unforgettable time and place.
When we attend the Woodward cruise in mid-August each year, we cruise in the evenings the two weeks prior to the Dream Cruise. We see old friends, recognizing their cars. Yes, we are both gearheads. Will always have a hot rod to cruise in. Always have a build project going on. Right now we are driving a 1928 Model A Ford pick up, powered by a '54 Pontiac straight eight flat head (L-head), tricked out in an aviation theme. She won first in class at Autorama (Detroit) 3 years ago.

If you have not been there, for anyone reading this The Speedway Motors Museum of American Speed in Lincoln , Neb. should be on every gearheads bucket list.
When you leave walking past the storage room, where there is even more rare-odd engines, you wish you knew some one there or could set-up a private viewing as there is as much there as there is in the huge museum.
Sadly Speedy Bill Smith went to the car meet in the sky but the open hours have been expanded greatly from what they were when I was there five or so years ago.
They are going to set-up a membership and perhaps with that one can see the whole shebang.
