Looks like it might be a Crabapple (Malus)
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

Crataegus tend to have remnants of the calyx on the end of the fruit. Leaves are not right for Hawthorn.

Easyway to test is to cut an apple in half through the equator.
It will have a 5 pointed star shaped compartment holding the seeds.

All apples are edible...not all are delicious raw.
Can be used to make crab apple jelly/wine etc.

The fruit looks different than hawthorn to me. They look more like Crabapple.

Anyone else see something I don't?

Zencat..see my post above.
Leaves may be similar for Crataegus_crus-galli but the fruits are very different. Note calyx on the end.

It still looks like an apple, but it is more revealing tp cut it in half the other direction, perpendicular to the stem.

If you slit the skin around the equator with your fingernail, you can often twist an apple in half.
