I have a very healthy Tiger Beetle population around my house and they seem to *really* like my 1st-year garden. Today I was walking around it when I noticed the larvae (jacks) were very active in popping their heads out of the holes and in suddenly disappearing back down the holes...seemed kind of like "whack a mole" without a hammer. Green Grin! We got a couple of inches of rain yesterday and the sun was out so I figure they were doing house-keeping chores or something.

Well, walking around in the garden I came upon what appears to be a horsefly with it's head down in a jack hole. At first I thought it was digging into the dirt but then I saw that it's legs were in the air and it appeared to be struggling. Looks like it made a misstep, too bad. Oh well, that baby Tiger Beetle eats well today... nodding
