Hi Guys --

I initially wanted to plant two Nicolais right next to each other to fill this space. A few people at Home Depot seem to think provided I have a focused drip system, the roots won't be an issue and it won't become a monster if I consistently trim.

Ideally, I just want it growing taller not wider.

Some of the pictures I've googled seems to show this plant just "takes over".

Am I biting off or starting a major problem by planting two of these here?

If its okay to move forward and its manageable, what suggestions do you have?

If its best to avoid, what other tree/shrub alternatives would you plant?

If you can plant the plant at least 2' from the wall it will work. Keep any and all new plants that it sprouts cut out and maintain as 2 trunks.

Thank you both. Scott, the 5 gallon it came with looks like this. Is this 3 trunks or all part of one root ball? Should I be separating these before planting?

Is the best way to cut to literally simply cut away at the base?

Looks like 3 individual plants in the 5 gal pot. Easy to cut thru the root mass if you like. Get a good sharp knife or saw and cut away.

Example: Cut root mass in the general area of the white line.
