When I first joined this forum, I posted some pictures of my Jungle Fires. Several people thought it did not look like Jungle Fires and I have to admit that this semp goes through more changes than any other one I seem to have.

I got my original plants from Youngs Nursery. And I potted them up in two pots.

This is the pictures that Youngs had on their website.

And these are some of the stages these plants have gone through.

What I find interesting is not only the color but the actual shape of the leaves changes on this plant.

Wow what ever you have there it certainly is one crazy plant and there are none of its multiple personalities that look like my Jungle Fires. Mine never gets those long narrow leaves and is never solid red.
Here is what it looks like in the winter. Now the red ring has receded in to the very center of the plant and is paler in color as is almost everything right now.

Melissa,

Jungle Fires is from Jungle Shadows X Skrocki 51. The latter had on occasion brilliant color and is the parent of Flasher too that has the color but just flushes on the outer leaves. 51 was a weak grower and a poor increaser. Taking it to Jungle Shadows solved those growth problems. It is one of those from my youth that pleases me still. Mine never gets green here but I give it a little shade so the colors don't fade. Betty Bronow liked it a lot as she thought it had a better red color than others of the time and it's the parent of her Lord of the Ring series too.

Kevin,

Thanks for the info on Jungle Fires. I truly find all this so new and fascinating.

Jungle Fires is one of my favorites and I agree that it does grow very well indeed. I have made several starts for friends and it is always available with babies for me to harvest.

I also have Jungle Shadows in my collection. I suspect that I have many of the varieties you have developed over the years.

I have another Jungle Fires that I started from the parent and I will go and photograph it because if looks different from all those I have already posted.

I know it looks and sounds really crazy but I swear all of these game from the same original plant.

And in checking on my babies I found other Jungle Fires that looks different from those I have already posted.

I'll take a picture and post it.

Good morning Melissa. Don't fret. We have all been in your place. My most recent one to become a NOID was my much loved 'Sunset', which turned out to not even be close to what 'Sunset' should look like.
I don't think your semp is 'Jungle Fires', although it is lovely in all it's seasons.
When you come down Friday I can bring you a 'Jungle Fires' if you like? A gift. Smiling

Thank you Lynn. That is very kind of you and I will accept your offer. It will be interesting to grow your Jungle Fires next to my NOID Fire to see how they differ.

I have a lot of small plants started right now and would be happy to bring you one in exchange for your Jungle Fires.

I have starts of Bronco, Carmen, Cherry Frost, Fashion Diva, Hopewell, Icicle, More Honey, Novak, Pacific Magic Night, Positively Glowing, Purple NOID, Green NOID, Roasted Chestnut. That is all I can think of off the top of my head.

Melissa, thank you so much for the offer, right now I don't have room for any new semps.
Also, I heard from Kevin this afternoon. He wants to be the one to bring you a 'Jungle Shadows' from his very own colony. Hurray!

We are going to have such a great time this Friday. Hurray!
