I have about 1 1/2 acre back yard, that I don't even know where to start. It's a blank slate with NO trees. I love country or french gardens, private little nooks, and dont know how to accomplish this. I also love tropical plants, as I have huge elephant ears and banana tree plants to transplant here soon. I also need a spot for my hummingbird and bird feeders. Please anyone, help if you can! I don't want to just plant things around the edges, I need a plan and don't have in the budget to hire a pro.

I would start by thinking of what trees or large shrubs you might want, and siting them first, allowing enough space for their mature size. Then take a can of directional spray paint and make some sweeping curves of where you might want garden beds. I'm a sucker for native plants and always suggest checking with your local native plant society for ideas. They often have planting plans, and it looks like natives would work well for you with the backdrop of evergreens. Enjoy your project, take your time, and let it evolve how it will. Fun.

Some cities have community education available, if so check to see if there are any landscaping courses.
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

Make a small nook, even though at this point it will not be a nook, that will eventually be the center of your garden area, then as time goes by build out and around it.
