I gues Sue is busy, so I have taken the liberty of starting the September thread.

For our September rose, I picked this one, for no reason other than I liked the photo:

Welcome! back! Hope you had a great trip!

Carol, that is a lot of lovely roses for September. I have Pascali, H.C. Andersen, Kosmos, Guy Savoy, New Dawn, Brownie and Novalis blooming and that is the most blooms I remember ever having at this time of year.

Today is Salami Day and also National Beer Lover's Day, which some might think of as

With thirty thousand registered roses, one would think there would be some named after beer. I mean, after all, there's Whiskey Mac and Tequila Sunrise. Why not Pilsener or Oatmeal Stout? Lagerfeld contains lager, but finishes off the mark.

There is a rose named Lagerfeld. Smiling
Also Applejack but we used that last year.

I did look for beer related names, but couldn't find any. No hits for 'salami' either, but that was not really a great shock. Big Grin

There is a narcissus Salome, but as similar as it may sound, I guess it has nothing to do with salami. Or roses. I happen to like good salami, but I think it's not easy to find great salami. The real secret to great salami, IMO, is in applying just the right amount of great mustard. Great salami with great mustard is a rare pleasure. So I suppose one might be able to use Ketchup and Mustard some year for this. On the other hand, maybe there is a International Wiener Day or a Better Living Through Condiments Day and this rose is better suited for that.

Apropos of confusion between salami and Salome.... In one of her books, Rosemary Verey tells a story about planning a garden at a great house in England, perhaps it was Elton John's grounds. Along with thousands of other plants, she orders the gardeners to plant a dozen or two Camaieux roses. They buy the roses, plant them. Then something unthinkably horrible happens. They bloom orange. The witless gardeners have planted Cameo, and for a whole season owners and guests of the house have to endure their garish blooms! They are replaced in fall with the correct cultivar and everyone lives happily ever after.

Sometimes writing things down helps.

Carol, I meant to leave a word of thanks for your great photos and commentary on the roses above.
It looks like your rose garden, though youngish, is off to a great start! I tip my hat to you.

Margie - gorgeous blooms. I saw The Yellow in person at Ludwigs in SA and was really impressed by the blooms. I am quite envious that you were able to get some of the Ludwigs roses.

Now I have to have a quick look at the database photo before I go to work - thanks for the tip. Thumbs up
