Hello everyone,
I am a new member and have a question about my Red Rocket Crimson crepe myrtle. We bought this tree 1 1/2 years ago as a twig from a mail order establishment. We live in the lower region of N.Y. and had our doubts it would grow. After surrounding the tree over the winter for protection, this summer it grew twice the size, (now around 4') high, the tree has bloomed. My question to the readers is , from the photos, does the tree look like it's doing ok at 1 1/2 years of growth?

Welcome!
I would say yes. Not sure of your zone, but remember the Gardener's axiom: First year sleep, Second year creep, Third year leap.

Red Rockets are my favorite crape myrtle for color. I have them planted all along my driveway. The only thing I would change if I could would be the trees' shape. It is a very upright, vase shape instead of a spreading canopy, but that actually works well for the driveway.
