What time is it??? It's time to take the seeds out of the fridge, I have my cells set up, and I am ready to get the seeds into some potting soil, to watch them grow.

Great Job Catherine but you don't need the bags. The soil you covered the seeds with should provide enough darkness for them. Thumbs up

Thanks Daniel, I will take the bags off, I was thinking they need to be in a dark, cool place that's why I covered them, also I had read people take plastic wrap and put on the top of their seeds, to help them germinate, once they were planted in soil.

You can leave the bags on until the first seed germinates, it will save you having to water. Remove the bag once the first seedling is up in that bag otherwise there is not enough air circulation to keep fungi from causing damping off disease.

Daylily seeds do not need to be in the dark to germinate.

Edited to add an afterthought, they do not necessarily need to be in a cool place either but it would depend on the definition of cool and whether they have been sufficiently stratified to break seed dormancy (stratification also changes the temperature range over which daylily seeds will germinate).

You may need to come up with a plan to keep your "supervisor" off the table. I had to put a plastic fence around the shelving unit where my seedlings were. They love anything NEW and if dirt is involved, all the better. Hurray!

She is only allowed in that room if I am in it, if I am not in there the door is closed and she can't get in there, I learned my lesson the hard way months ago, when I had some small
proliferation in the house she ate all of the tops of them.

@touchofsky

Her name is Jeri Seinfeld, she is not only of the calico I have, I have 5 in total, 2 tortie, and 3 calico. I just rescued a family of 6 cats a few weeks ago, in total I have 16 animals I look after and feed, not all of them live at my house thou. I am big on TNR and looking after animals that have been tossed out.

Do you have a photo of your baby?

I am gonna take the bags off, some seeds already had little white roots growing, better safe than sorry I don't want to get any fungi growing in there, the soil was good and damp when I started, and that room is the coolest room in the house, fingers crossed that I see little green shoots sprouting up in the next few days.

Jeri is sweet, cute name! Good for you for caring for unwanted animals.
I have had other torties and calicos in my life, but sadly they have passed away. I, too, do rescue, currently I have my little epileptic schipperke, and Delph was a shelter cat. I only have two dogs and one cat at this time, but at one time I had four cats and three dogs, all rescues of one type or another. I will post a photo of Delph later, it is on my computer.

Valerie, Delph is beautiful! Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

I had an oriental tortie shorthair years ago called 'Echo' (because she never stopped shouting!)

For those who don't know what I am talking about, Siamese and Oriental cats are extremely vocal Smiling

Thanks, Jill and Nikki.
One of my previous cats, a calico called Pansy, was extremely vocal. She loved to 'talk' Hilarious! I always thought she had some Siamese in her.

Delph has fit in well. She is an easy cat, and likes attention, but isn't a lap cat. She was a stray, found on the downtown streets of Ottawa with a badly broken canine tooth. The shelter removed the tooth, and after it healed, put her up for adoption and we were lucky enough to get her. She is now about 3 years old.

She, too will eat daylily foliage, so I have to protect my seedlings!
