To prevent dirt from leaking out of the bottom of a pot during repotting, line it with a coffee filter. This keeps the dirt from falling out of the hole in the bottom during the planting process and also after waterings. Either new or used filters work fine. Over time, the filters disintegrate, but often the plant's root system has developed sufficiently to keep the soil from leaking out.

Excellent! I have been twisting myself into a pretzel trying to accomplish this and here, you give a very simple solution! Thank you!

You know, I guess old swatches of fabric would work well too.... D'Oh!

I do something similar by cutting pieces of fiberglass screening. It's all good!
Be content moving inch by inch because, by days end, the inches, will add up to feet and yards.

Fulfilling ambitious objectives is usually done one step at a time.

I agree I use both methods. I've even used hand towels (paper) that I cut in smaller squares to fit inside the pots, if needed.

I love these additional ideas.
Some fellow gardeners use dryer sheets, although I've never tried it before.
Great idea to repurpose items you already have around the house.
