Found this ceramic tablet today while planting a bush. It has a bamboo stalk on it and what looks like chinese characlers.

Can anyone translate the words. Thanks for your help

I sent a cc of the bottom pic to my nephew who is living in China with his Chinese wife, hopefully one of them can shed some light on this, although I have no idea how many dialects there might be -- pretty large country! Or perhaps someone else will jump in. Cool find.

I think its upside down. I suspect that's a name. DD#1 is looking at it.

It is upside down. She speaks Japanese so ...

She thinks it MIGHT be Japanese because the characters are 'cursive-y' - Chinese tends to be more blocky.

1st character is 'Bamboo'
2nd is 'thicket' (she's pretty sure that's not quite it)
3rd and 4th is 'the Great Peace' (literally it means peace and tranquility - at least in Japan)

DD#1 is not quite sure how old but finds it totally cool.

Hopefully Deb's neice in law can shed more light.

DD#1's new thought: its a coaster from World Market... Maybe.

Now that's funny! Smiling
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.
