Does anyone know what could be causing this? The plant's leaves seemed to be underdeveloped and curling.

Look under the leaves for aphids or other insects.

It could also be lack of nutrients or the start of root binding or not enough water. Did you re pot in a larger container, if we could see the pot it's in that might help.
