I suspect that these may be for the same plant.

Autumn Sage (Salvia 'Sparkle')
Mountain Sage (Salvia x jamensis Heatwave™ Sparkle)

Heatwave appears to be a trademark name; introductions from Australia with names of 'Blast', 'Blaze', 'Glitter', 'Glimmer' and 'Sparkle'. http://www.prideofplaceplants....

I wonder if these three are perhaps all the same plant?

Mountain Sage (Salvia x jamensis Heatwave™ Sparkle)
Autumn Sage (Salvia 'Sparkle')

I couldn't find anything on one named 'Sparkler' but did find the following sites with information on 'Sparkle':

Monrovia lists it as Heatwave Sparkle Sage, microphylla x greggii and the cultivar shown as 'EGGBEN004' with the plant patent number 24,154: http://www.monrovia.com/plant-...

Flowers by the Sea lists it as Salvia microphylla 'Heatwave Sparkle' but in the write up it does say it's a cross with S. greggii: http://www.fbts.com/salvia-mic...

Plant Delights lists it as Salvia x jamensis 'Sparkle' but states that it is a cross between S. macrophylla and x greggii

I found some places listing the cultivar name as 'Heatwave Sparkle' and others just listing it as 'Sparkle'

I've deleted the first one because I couldn't find any evidence of its existence either, Lin. As for the other two, both were added by @Marilyn, who knows her salvias and probably can tell us the difference between the two.

Salvia greggii 'Sparkler' is listed on a couple of U.K. nursery websites but the RHS website has it listed as a synonym. However, they fail to mention the real identity.

I'd guess that Salvia greggii 'Desert Blaze' would be a good possibility but have found no actual proof.

Uhggg! Why do nurseries love renaming plants so much. Thumbs down

The Desert Blaze entry was just changed less than an hour ago, Lin. They are indeed the same plant, with the same patent number.

Marilyn and I have been discussing whether or not 'Sparkle' and Heatwave™ Sparkle are the same plant. The nursery selling the plant has indicated they don't know but will look into it.

It certainly looks like the same plant. It's the same color and Salvia x jamensis Heatwave™ Sparkle has that distinctive, up-turned lower lip.

I see that they don't mention the patent on Salvia greggii ‘Ruby Slippers’ either. Seems suspicious. Glare

Sorry I wasn't able to get in on the discussion earlier.

Speaking of Heatwave Sparkle and Sparkle: if you look (and compare) at the pics of the two; they look different in color.

Yes, my point was that the Civano website should include the patent info on their listing for 'Ruby Slippers'. Nurseries are notoriously bad about keeping proper nomenclature so I would be hesitant to base inclusion in the database on only one nursery's website.

The photo on the Santa Rosa website is the stock marketing photo. The color in that photo has always seemed off to me. The color accuracy of cameras can vary so much and different light can result in different color rendering. The color is described as "Color: deep mauve/ pink with white throat" on the breeder's website.

A few more examples for comparison:
http://lambley.com.au/plant/sa...
http://www.ppandl.net/index.cf...
(the breeder) http://www.prideofplaceplants....

There are so many S. greggii and S. microphylla hybrids (x jamensis) that it would be impossible to be certain of a cultivar just by photos, but they are similar enough in both looks and name to call it into question.

I had several from that series at one time, but 'Sparkle' was wimpier for me and died. 'Sparkle' and , especially, 'Glitter' both had the weird habit of keeping their lower lips cupped up a bit.

I hope that Civano is able to provide the answer. Wait and see, I suppose. Shrug!
