|What can I plant in Brevard, NC in October?|

|Hi and welcome. Great time to plant trees, shrubs and hardy perennials. It's also a great time to shop for those types of plants because your local nurseries are very likely having big sales and clearance prices on them. You might have time to sneak in some cool-season veggies if that's what you're hoping for. Greens like lettuce and peas might give you a harvest before they're killed off by the first frosts. Buying transplants if you can will give you a few weeks head start.
New plantings of shrubs and perennials do need to be mulched deeply to survive their first winter, keeping them from freezing and thawing as well as drying out too much. If you have warm, dry spells in the winter, a little water on new plantings is probably a good idea.
