We came from here
The thread "Our Orchid blooms in September 2017" in Orchids forum

A chilly and sunny October 1. morning here in NJ and it is time for a new thread! Right now I am smitten with this Rlc Magic of Mishima 'Volcano Queen' with three spikes in the works. Surely I will just have to post this one again with more buds open. I just have to take a bunch of pictures! Smiling

And some more stuff still in bloom, incredibly that Miltonia Sunset is still at it and actually shows another new spike.

Thumbs up Volcano Queen is floofy all over, it reminds me of the rullfed petticoats we wore back in the 50's. Rolling my eyes.

an outstanding start to the month, Ursula!
Your Rlc Magic of Mishima 'Volcano Queen' is stunning...we love floof , especially when it's combined with fragrance. I wonder if it's too hot in Florida to grow that Milt. Sunset...I can see a beautiful Caribbean sunset in those flowers.

Lindsey, we had several weeks in September which were unusually warm. Last week I had to start the AC in the greenhouse because we hit 93 degr F over a few days. I would think this one is surely warmth tolerant.

Great start to the month, Ursula! I especially like 'Volcano Queen' and the Milt. 'Sunset' I did see the Miltonias at the show, but my track record with the species is not good, so I passed. Now I'm kicking myself.

This is Rlc. Yen Corona 'Green Genie'. There is a second award to this grex. It is C. Brazilian Treasure X Rlc. Mem. Helen Brown.
I have had it a year now and I mounted it on cypress when I purchased it. This beauty is well established.

I just love green and purple or green and amethyst flowers. The more light you give this pretty plant, the darker the amethyst markings are.
Plant is a compact grower, three inch bulbs with four inch leaves.
The substance is waxy and fragrance will develop.

That Mishima is just gorgeous! That needs to get looked at in judging but not every plant can get there. That color is incredible and this could very well be flower award quality.
I would extend my "score sheet" for Cattleyas to add a box for "Floofiness"! I would have to score it nine points for floofells.

Oh, they're all gorgeous, but Lindsey I really like that last Richard Mueller cross. What pretty colors and a nice lip.

My goodness, that Mary Ellen Carter is one of the prettiest red lipped, yellow to orange hybrids I have ever seen!!
The petals are full and flat, the sepals provide a well balanced flower of very good form. The lip is outstanding!
Congrats on that beauty.
Cherry Suisse, the anceps hybrid, the spotted Catt. Is right up my alley. Incredible plants one and all.
We are very fortunate to have such fabulous growers and such gorgeous flowers to make us envious and cause us to drool uncontrollably. My "want list" is getting so long, I have "writers cramp!!" Rolling on the floor laughing

Bill, the 'Green Genie' is very nice, such clean colors!

Regarding the Mishima judged, unfortunately I don't belong to any local Orchid Society! You guys are my judges!? Smiling

Lindsey, you have a beautiful show going on there! No complaints on any one of them! Smiling Lovey dubby

I'm surprised that Richard Mueller X is a troubled one. Most of his stuff is indestructible.

Bill, will you please sign the back of this and I'll hang it on Ursula's plant.

Carol, regarding the Richard Mueller cross. I asked one of our club members ( who also works for the AOS) about the plant. She told me that she had bought a few of them as well and they behaved the same for her. She went on to say that sometimes even with famous parents, you'll get problem children. I generally like anything with Richard Mueller in it , because of the spots and often the color changes that happen as the flower ages...this one will turn bright yellow/orange with pink spots.

Oh my, what a show you folks are putting on. I am intentionally not (or not intentionally) acquiring any plants right now, I'm trying to keep things simple in case we put the house on the market. All these pretties are killing me. Mary Ellen Carter and Manolo will be on the list for my next house. LOL

I bought a Catt Mary Ellen at Carter and Holmes for my DIL, is that one related to Mary Ellen Carter? Ursula had posted a good site for looking up the parentage but I must have forgotten to star that page.

Alice, I just looked it up Mary Ellen Carter is now a Cattleya and the Hunabu Esmeralda is now a Rlc. I got this plant in Sarasota from Plantio..right next to Tropiflora..You can send Rafael an email and ask if he can find another one for you.
I think the site that you are looking for is in the pinned posts at the top of the forum.

Thank You! No wonder I didn't star (bookmark now) the page, Ursula had already done it for us. I tip my hat to you.

It must be the same plant I bought for my DIL Mary Ellen, I just didn't remember the Carter part of the name. I bought it at Carter and Holmes and according to Orchid Roots, 'Mary Ellen Carter' is one of their introductions.
