Taking walks in the neighborhood and seeing these in yards I took pictures trying to find out what they were. Another trip to Lauritzen Gardens they had them on the grounds with the name! So at my local nursery today I bought one and promptly planted it, a New England Aster, the tag says Aster Purple Dome. Hurray!

I love New England Asters! I always enjoy seeing them in gardens this time of year. I haven't planted one since I moved to Reno (4 years ago) but had one in my garden in California. It was about 4 feet across but it took 15 or 20 years to get that big.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming...."WOW What a Ride!!" -Mark Frost

Linda, that is gorgeous! You should add your photo to the database: New England Aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae 'Purple Dome')
