..... somehow lost this photo for a long time this year, but finally found it. Not the best photograph since it was a cloudy, gloomy day last spring, but this illustrates my work with orange iris. Many flaws to this seedling, but one of my goals is to "power up" the form on orange iris and to strengthen/develop the "valencia orange" hue in TB iris which is a thin candidate color catagory. This is a step in the right direction -- towards my goal.

Despite the weather conditions that's still quite a good photo and the colour looks excellent. Looking forward to seeing how you progress towards your goal.

I agree Crossing Fingers!

I have been looking for orange irises for a couple of years now and I find most of them are more of a dark, golden yellow than actually orange. Looking forward to see how the ones I got this year looks 'in person'.

Too right Lilli. Orange is an elusive color in irises. Probably because they are lacking the gene for red pigment. The orange ones I have lean towards either gold or rust. That one looks promising Tim. Thumbs up

Ah yes, that elusive red pigment. The Holy Grail of iris growers everywhere! Big Grin

...and yet, there are no shortage of irises with bright orange beards out there. Most intriguing...

I like the rounded form on your orange seedling! I love orange iris but have had trouble with them surviving more than a few years. Hope you can breed some hardiness in with stronger color. Smiling

Very nice work Timothy, i can't wait to see the color progress on your goal. When it happens, I'll be one of those in line, to buy your "Valencia Orange".

Thumbs up It takes so long and so much patience to create a specific trait in an iris. I look forward to seeing what you create.

Very interesting photo Tim. Hurray! I am amazed that your photograph turned out wonderful through the gloominess morning. I didn't think that there wasn't any gloominess around because the orange petals caught my eye in amazement of their bright and outstanding colors. I think that your iris had been blessed with all the attention it had gotten that spring. Nice work, and keep it up. I am sure lots of people will be happy and proud of what pride and work you put into your irises. Smiling
