Time to visually capture the Coleus'ness before this years' displays are just a memory, or put pics already taken for those where Jack Frost has already visited. What did your Coleus do this year?

I'll start with a couple pics from out front, but pics I'll add later will be similar. I have more quantity than variety.

You still have a lot of pretty fall color going on. I cut down one of my big pots yesterday to make a couple arrangements to take to the nurses at the hospital where I used to work. I also brought inside all my cuttings last night. Not sure how cold it got, but heard 35 for tonight. This photo of my tower was taken a few days ago. It has been it's best ever this summer.

Potential frost tonight, I saved every stem I could cram into the jars I had, and into pots. I started last weekend & did what I could yesterday. No matter what happens with other plants that are still out there, I think I have Coleus covered.
:+)

Susan, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of fertilizer program do you use for your tower planting? They looks so healthy!
Tiffany, I love all your coleus bouquets by the window! I use to do this but I stopped in the last couple of years. I told myself no more coleus but couldn't resist the end of season sale which I stuffed into this one pot. Here it is in August. Brought the whole pot in but only one of these are surviving indoors.

Loretty, TYVM! Those pots are gorgeous! I am having a dense moment, not understanding your comment about surviving outside?

Not outside, inside. I brought the whole pot inside to overwinter under the lights but all of the coleus died except one plant - Kiwi Fern.

Oh. So happy to hear about the survivor but sorry about the ones that didn't make it. Had the pot been exposed to colder temps before being brought in? Except for a couple pots that did not get put in the landscape this summer and just came back in the same way they went out, my Coleus-saving is all about cuttings. Mostly because of space issues, with some credit given to laziness and schedule issues. ;) In regard to space, for example, a stem of each of the ones from your pic could fit in a single jar on a windowsill. My windowsills aren't big enough for any but very small pots, so for me, putting jars of cuttings in them is using space that would otherwise be empty - and in the best available light.

Kiwi Fern bit the dust now too. I use to do cuttings but had issues too. Certain varieties could stay in the water all season but some needed to be planted up in short order or the stems would start to rot. No frost. I make sure I get the cutting usually before that.
I have a relative that just brings in her pots instead of cuttings and her coleus look like bushes. They are gorgeous but I guess I don't have the right conditions. She has a large sliding glass window. I have basement lights.

So sorry to hear! And I agree, probably any plant would do better next to a glass door vs. a basement light.

I miss having a basement though. Most of the plants I'd stick down there with shop lights would stay alive but not necessarily stay looking great during that time.

Lots of big plants! That is what happened to me. So many plants got big, there is no more room for cuttings and seedlings.

Ah see? I did use to take cuttings! Still I remember a lot of these rotted.
I think this was a year I joined a coop with Rosy Dawn.
