How do they get seedless watermelon seeds.
Specifically, Sugar Baby " Heirloom " ?

Shhh... Its a secret.

Its the same reason that, when you cross a horse and a donkey, you get a mule. Mules cannot reproduce themselves, there always has to be a horse and a donkey.

As I understand it the seedless watermelon is a hybrid - like a mule, any seeds it produces will not grow.It is a triploid fruit with 33 chromosomes instead of the normal 22. They did not exist until recently so I think "heirloom" is alternative truth.

I'm confused. When I search 'sugar baby watermelon heirloom' - I get lots of hits that in fact claim this as an heirloom, but also show photos with black seeds, so not a seedless variety. Philip, did your melons have seeds, or no? I wish I could grow melons, but my season is just too short and not hot enough.
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.
