Hello,

I recently got 2 miniature roses. Everything I've read about care is in reference to the Spring, but it's October and where I live it's already starting to freeze. Many places also talked about a dormant period in the winter but these plants are just starting to bloom. What is the best option to do?

Thank you

Personally, I would over-winter them indoors or an unheated garage until spring.

Not sure, but miniature roses are winter hardy here and I find that, if they like the spot they're planted in, they can live longer than many other garden perennials. In our case, we do have to prevent their being shading out by taller perennials in the mixed perennial beds.

Re blooming: they also tend to be repeat bloomers. Ours still have a few blooms in September and into October.

Have never tried to overwinter them in pots, but all our overwintering in pots is done outside in a protected place, the perennials being frozen in their pots and covered by snow. However, it's usually in larger pots and is in regular garden soil.

I forgot to ask, are they still in pots or are they in the ground?
