They have started building the APS Fall Auction Page. Each winning bid is shipped free in the US only. You have to be a member to bid. They always have some very interesting Peonies up for Auction. The preview will start Oct. 16. Bidding starts Oct. 20 and ends Oct. 21.
This is a fundraiser, so all Peonies purchased are guilt free Hilarious!

I just signed up for APS membership. I hope to attend the next APS convention in Oregon in 2018. I may also participate in this auction if the offerings include some peonies on my want list. Has anyone ever won an auction from APS? Just wondering who do you pay the money to? And how soon after you won the auction and made payment was the peony shipped to you?

Karen, I have won Peonies on past auctions. They send you an email with the amount you owe, and you use PayPal to pay. The Peonies came soon afterwards. I have seen nice Peonies sold for $10!
The membership dues aren’t that much and the quarterly publications are nice.

Thank You! LG! Do you know if they update the highest bids during the bidding process? So you can send in a higher bid should you really want the peony?

Karen, they have updated the bids in the past, but it isn’t instant like EBay. You really have to pay attention to the webpage.
It is fun, though, and you may be surprised at what you win!

Are APS quarterly publications electronic or hard copies?

@kousa Karen, I signed up for APS membership yesterday also. After I placed the order and paid online, I only received the receipt from PayPal and the invoice/order confirmation email from APS. There was no further information about my membership. Was it the same with you?

Do APS members get a membership card or something like that? APS website says the members also get a year book besides the quarterly publications, right?

I got the same things as you, peonyplan. I really don't know how APS works but I am sure they probably have our names in the membership record with our payments. Can anyone with APS membership experience respond? Do you get some form of confirmation that your membership is processed?

I received a bulletin and a welcome shortly after I joined. A card? I don't think I have received one from the societies I have been involved in, not that I recall. You just have to keep in mind that all of the people who do the work, processing etc. are all volunteers. Having been a person directly involved in these types of societies, it can be time consuming. Be assured that you are a member and you CAN participate in the auction once you have joined.

I seem to recall the initial acceptance material contained a user id and password in order to log onto their official site. It was cancelled when I cancelled my membership.

I received an email from the secretary after joining, don’t remember getting a membership number or anything. I’m planning to go to next year’s convention as well. Hope all of us from the forum can make plans to actually meet in person there! And Karen, I won 2 Peonies in last years auction. You do have to sit and watch the price and just assume if it’s what you offered that yours was the first in. You don’t know for sure until the auction closes and you get an email that the root is yours. The bids go right up to the last second so I’d scope out what you want and set a limit for yourself of what you’re willing to spend before even starting and plan to be on just before it closes to rebid if necessary

So I bought 2 books from APS today: THE AMERICAN HYBRID PEONY and HISTORY OF PEONIES AND THEIR ORIGINATIONS (before 1986). I guess it is about time that I should read about the peonies that I grow and learn about their origins. I have certainly enjoyed them and appreciated their beauty immensely. It will be very interesting to know how they came about. Even better is that these books are currently on sale from APS.

Looks like the APS has updated the list of roots offering for the auction. Sonoma Yedo and Lemon Chiffons are among the offerings if anyone is interested. Good luck!

I bid on one, but I don't think I got it. Rather I may have helped APS get a higher price for it. Whistling

Good luck on yours, Liz!

The website crashed at the last few minutes so we will have to see what happened. There were some really large bids made early on!! It is a lot of fun!! Confused Blinking Crossing Fingers!
