They were asking for help because their kid was sick, so I purchased a gift certificate. Now I see no way cash it in. Am I screwed?

Is that the name of the business? What is the location? Did you do a search for any reviews? I found some Yelp ones for one in Coeburn, VA but not sure if this is the business you are talking about. They seem to be out of business and no longer have a website.

I don't think 'screwed' is the right word. Maybe a kind and generous person who made a donation to a family in need. Smiling
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming...."WOW What a Ride!!" -Mark Frost

Just curious how they contacted you?
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

That's not how it was framed. They said they needed the money now, but didn't have the bandwidth to fulfill until later.
