I have a philidondron clipping, I accidentally killed the plant, and have 1 surviving clipping. I've had it in water, it has 2 leaves, and 1 root. It is very very small, I've had it rooting in a small cup of water.
The root has changed color.
Can I save this plant? It has been in my family for 40 years, my mom will be So upset I killed it.
This is the plant.
Can it be saved?

Hi & welcome! So sorry to hear about your plant. Virtual hug!

The little piece in your hand doesn't look 100% healthy, but unless/until the green leaves turn brown and shriveled, there could be hope.

If it does not pull through, you should be able to find a replacement relatively easily wherever potted plants are sold. It will probably be labeled "Pothos" if it is labeled that specifically.
Some basic pics: Pothos (Epipremnum aureum)

A search that includes some different cultivar leaf styles: https://garden.org/plants/sear...

Best luck!!

Thanks, I hope it pulls through.
Is it possible to start one off from a seed? If I get another one, I'd like to raise it from a seed if possible.
If not, my local Lowe's has some philodendrons on sale I can buy one there.

Happy to suggest for your investigation. I hope so too!
Theoretically possible, if you could find a source for the seeds. I've never heard of anyone growing this plant from seeds, in the US. If you find some, please let us know how it goes!

In cases like this, I try to think, all the greenhouse plants like this are cousins anyway being propagated by cuttings or tissue. A new plant will be 'just the same'. But do NOT go looking for seed. There seem to many scam seed sellers out there and this is NOT a plant normally grown from seed. Better to spend the money on a healthy little plant. Raise it from a baby but not 'seed' baby.

Good advice...

I agree with the others, buy a new one and put it in the same pot, I bet your Mom wont even realize its a different plant.

Yeah, the store didn't have the same one I had. I had a heartleaf philodendron, the store only had splitleaf philodendron and golden devils ivy, and those were just the closest plants to what I had. They had plenty of flowers and seeds and bulbs, but those were the only "climbing" plants they have at this time.

The grooved petiole in your original pic looks like Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) to me.

If it is indeed a heartleaf, then you could propagate another plant from a clipping off a plant, if you know someone who has one. Then put it in a cup of water until it gets a strong root system.
That's my advice.
