Dave, I went to the plant Consolida ambigua in the database to move it to Consolida ajacis which is the correct name as Consoiida ambigua is a synonym but got this irritating flickering spam ad on the screen!![]() |

Eeek, got another one! ![]() ![]() |
Hideous! I removed those an hour ago but didn't get a chance to reply yet. I assume you're not seeing them anymore? |

I haven't tried yet Dave, I just got back from the shop. I'll try it now! Thanks! ![]() |

It is still going on Dave! ![]() ![]() |
Could you do a shift-refresh? It really ought to be gone by now. ![]() |

It doesn't help Dave with refreshing, it seems to be another each time!![]() |

It is the same with other plants in the database..I wonder if I am the only one?![]() |
The ads really should be gardening related but I'm also seeing some that aren't directly related to gardening. I'm looking into this some more right now. |

Thanks Dave, the last two ones apart from not being gardening related were not flickering but normally ads should be on the side bar not right into the plant file? |
Some time ago (a week maybe?) I started experimenting with allowing ads that are the same size as the image. I think it looks really good under the main image, especially when it's a nice pretty ad for something like Annie's Annuals (which often shows for me). I looked into this a bit more and I can block ads based on categories. So I just went through and blocked a whole bunch of categories and that should help a lot. It may take an hour or two for the block to take effect, though. |
Here's what it looks like when there is what I would consider to be the perfect ad for the site:![]() |

Thanks Dave! I'll have a look at it later. The adds appearing in the middle of the page only happen in the plant data base, not in the forums, there they are on the side bar like they should be, but are rarely plant related in my case, maybe it has to do with me being in Belgium? It would be lovely to get only the plant related ones like in your example! ![]() |
I do know that advertisers can restrict their ads to only certain countries. That is likely why you're not seeing as many of the gardening ads. ![]() |

I think the problem is solved! Today I only get plant related ads in the plant data base! ![]() Thanks for solving the problem! ![]() |
Excellent!! |

The only time it's annoying is if there is not yet a photo of the plant in place. In that instance the ad appears in the slot where the photo normally is and if is a plant related ad, it gets a little confusing. I'm not sure if this will show for you but here's one example of a plant without a photo, not sure what you might see but here's the link: Cumberland false rosemary (Conradina verticillata) (can't do a screen shot with this iMac) |

the link worked for me, Sharon. I see what you mean. I was taken aback earlier, too, when I was looking at "Old Man Cactus" and the pic underneath was a picture of a sliced tomato (the pic in the example Dave showed above from the "perfect ad" screen shot). It made it look like that cactus produced tomatoes. I'm sure Dave can fine tune things. Shoe |

I think every time you click on the link you get a different ad, but it made me a little nuts when it was an ad for a lemon tree where the Cumberland Rosemary should be. |

I was too soon to think I only get plant-related ads ![]() But at least the horrible aggressive flickering ones don't show up again.. I agree that it must be confusing to see a picture that suggests a tomato producing Cactus, Shoe! ![]() Sharon this is what I got clicking on your link; ![]() |
