I live in Chicago and heard I should store my potted fig tree in the garage over the winter. But what are the specifics of things I need to do to prepare it properly? Thanks.

I assume this is a fruit-bearing Ficus carica and not a Fiddle=leafed Fig (Ficus lyrata). If so, I suggest that you prune it way back and store it in an unheated garage because it will need cold, but not bitter cold temps. If the garage gets very cold - below 10 degrees F., you will need to wrap the plant and the pot in burlap or a blanket covered with plastic.
