I want to grow wild bergamot, but I don't want to directly sow it outside, So should I start growing them indoors now (mid-October, after the first frost) or should I wait until January?

Osh - have a seed packet right in front of me. Unless you have some strong indoor lighting, I would wait until Jan so that they won't get leggy. Surface sow - don't cover.

Bergamot Orange?
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming...."WOW What a Ride!!" -Mark Frost
