And you will be amazed by how one can find room for one more bed somewhere. I have already figured out that widening a bed by about a foot next spring will allow for about 14 more iris. And that is just a simple fix.

Of course, in my case, that doesn't mean I won't have to also build a bed for about 100...... D'Oh!

Leslie,
Unless the trees die, I plant in the shade, or start putting pots on the roof (doesn't one of our members already do that?), my space is limited.
Pam,
That's a relief! Hilarious! I already figured out it was incurable. My efforts to fill the available space up with other things first, has been thwarted by the ready availability of irises for $1 or less each.

Ok so my total is 154 minus one that failed to thrive. TOO many!!!! I don't know how the Liz's and Mika's of the world do it when it comes to preparing beds and planting. So this year I have set an ordering limit of 36 and a total hard limit of 45. With that said, I have now been living with this Virus long enough to know when the cold winter months come, and I forget all my blooms from the previous Spring and with no more rebloomers in sight....every Iris photo seems to bring forth Oohs and Ohhs and Awws. And by Christmas I am once again telling my husband all I want for Christmas is, you guessed it...money for more Irises : I agree I need my head examined!!! Smiling

Tom said it. Winter Delusional Response. Big Grin You see the gorgeous photos and its months before they arrive. Plenty of time to find a place just to plant one or two more.

Maybe you can let him choose an iris or two. To get him interested. Then plant them in the new garden bed so he can watch their progress. After they bloom and he is overjoyed to see "his" iris you can suggest he pick a few more for the next bed.....and on it goes. Hilarious!

I only added 15 new iris this year, so 'just kid stuff'.

My focus this year was dividing my existing iris. That was a major project as many clumps were very crowded. The most prolific was Gypsy Queen. I ended up with 150 rhizomes! I planted a large number of them in one area and added lupines as a backdrop. I grew the lupines from seed to get enough.
