I am a new member and a begginer gardner.
We have 100 yrs old valley oak tree in front yard. We have 15 feet land three sides of the tree. I would like to make it a court yard so we can have some privacy. Of course we have very big lawn area too which we can leave it as it is and start some planting.
Can I raised the bed and plant boxwood For fence?

Can somebody give tips for that?

If the Oak has exposed roots, it is not a good idea to put more than 3 to 4 inches over the roots.
Do not cover any part of the trunk, period..

We had a situation like that once. We wanted a patio where there was a huge old tree. We finally just built a wooden deck and left a large square opening for the tree. It enhanced the deck, and was able to get plenty of water and continued growing very well.

Thank you for the tip! I did see exposed roots some place even 15 feet far from tree.
Would it be a good idea to keep some climbers and plants in pots around?

Pots of plants and some climbers would be fine. Have fun, and show us photos of what you end up doing! Good luck!
