I just took a 90 minute free class at the Apple Store, to learn to use the IPhone for photography. It was a lot of fun. I think it is amazing what can be done with a cellphone. It did make me want to get the new IPhone8 (I am 2 models behind the times) because it can blur out the background. Of course they had one to show me. But here are the photos I took with my cellphone. They were then minimally processed and cropped in my MacBook computer with the canned pre-installed software. I would invite you to share your artistic photos in this thread.

Great photos! Cellphones can do amazing things these days! Of course they are limited at things and aren't the greatest at zooming, but with the new phones having dual cameras and better low-light settings, they make wonderful point and shoot cameras. I don't even have a real camera anymore, after I sold my old Canon.

I don't have a cell phone that takes decent photos, but my wife does. When we are shopping the cell phone comes in very handy(she is looking for a new sofa). Our memories need the extra backup to remember what we saw and where we saw it! That is the best thing about cell phone cameras you normally have it with you!

I use my cell for that very purpose, quite often Thumbs up . Much easier than taking notes, and you have an image rather than a description.

Holy Cow James- your photos could be an ad for cell phone cameras. I had no idea you did not have a "real" camera. Another thing I did was buy a little set of add-on lenses for my IPhone 6S for about $100, includes wide angle, fisheye, and 10X and 15X magnifiers. Quite useful really. For seed photos, better than my "real" camera because the depth of field is much greater. I would have to do a lot of manipulation in the computer to get the photo with my Nikon. Here is a photo with my 10X magnifier. The ruler markings are mm!

Hilarious! thanks! I don't know about that. Thank you for the acorn. Wow! That's quite a macro shot from your 6s. I guess those lenses really do work. I have a little cheap set that came in a Christmas stocking that I never really use. Here's an example of my macro lens (it's a dog nose Whistling )

Hi Julia!
Yeah you have some nice ones! I like the plant, and your sunrise behind Mount Pilchuck is really nice. And what the devil is the "wheeledchair" one about? (For the rest of you, I live in the same town as Springcolor near Seattle so I recognize our local mountain).

You can sign up for the free classes, they have them at all the Apple Stores, I go to the one at Alderwood Mall. To find out when they are, go to
Apple.com
scroll to bottom, look in list under Apple Store for "Today at Apple" and click on that
This will give you a list, but it includes the store in Seattle and at Southcenter Mall too. You can "refine" the list to only include Alderwood Mall by clicking on "Refine", this gives you some choices, just click on Alderwood Mall (or whatever store you like for you other readers). Now this is important-you gotta click on "Close" which is in gray where the "refine" button was, so it actually does the requested refinement. Now your list includes all the free classes and workshops at our local store. Be a little careful as you scroll through, it shifts from day to day without much notice.
I see today there is one on "Portraits and People" at noon, tomorrow at 11 is "manipulating light and shadow". However sometimes there is nobody else at these classes, then you can have a private lesson on whatever you want! BTW, I have also been going to the regular photography ones, to learn to use my new mac laptop for my photography. It might be a bit hard for you- they are held at a table in the big store, sometimes there are a hundred customers milling around, and it is REALLY loud. One of the instructors has some hearing issues, he struggles with the background noise. The people they have teaching these are really nice, and many of them were commercial photographers. They are terrific! Where else can you get a free class with a real photographer?
Also I got the little add-on lens there when I got my iPhone a few years ago. I hear they also have clip-on telescopic lenses that are bigger but I have not investigated that. Mine are tiny and weigh basically nothing.

Wow to all of the photos! I keep saying that I'm going to sign up for a class at the Apple store aka the 'Mac Shack'. Unless they've changed, last time I looked only a 45 minute intro class is offered. Not saying I couldn't use it, just saying how surprised I am at all the classes other stores offer.

Here's what I don't understand and perhaps someone can give me a simple answer. Why is it that I can take a picture with my iphone and have it look sharp (not fuzzy) on my iphone and iMac, but when I upload it here it's blurry or fuzzy? (choose your adjective.) tia

No, I have never taken any classes. I just like taking photos and sometimes I get one that I like. This will make me sound like a child, but all I can say is that my mom says that I have a natural eye for color and perspective. The funny part about that is that I'm colorblind (protanopia) Hilarious!

tx_flower_child, I've never noticed that any of your photos look blurry or out of focus. Maybe they are being condensed/resized upon upload?

James, that's so interesting that you're a good photographer as well as being colorblind. I have a brother who is also colorblind and an excellent photographer.

Wonder if there's a connection?

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.
