My garden soil has been tested. Results are I need to apply 33-0-0, ammonium nitrate. I have exhausted all local sources to no avail. No 33-0-0. I have located a farm and feed store that carries 16-0-0. Can I double the amount of 16-0-0 to achieve similar results as recommended quantity of 33-0-0?

Yes. Ammonium Nitrate has not been generally available since it became known that combined with diesel, it is highly explosive. Ammonium Sulfate will, however, slightly acidify the soil.

You may prefer the Ammonium Sulfate even so. Ammonium Nitrate is more volatile (not really the right word) and will lose its effectiveness if not dug or watered in promptly. Ammonium Sulfate is more stable.

Be sure you are doubling the amount that was recommended by the testing and NOT the amount that might be recommended on the bag for lawns.
