When I realized that we were going to finally dip below 32ยฐ last night, I went outside and cut all my Cosmos down, chucked them in a bucket of warm water, and this is the happy result I woke up to this morning! (Iโ€™m even kinda digginโ€™ the classy plastic- bucket container look!) ๐Ÿ˜‰ Freezing my patootie off last night was well worth it!

Anything that extends the beauty of plants in danger from Jack Frost is a winner IMVHO! That's gorgeous!

This is how I discovered Coleus can spend the winter in a jar of water. ;)

This morning I almost stepped on a Praying Mantis in the middle of the parking lot at the grocery store. What could I do?? I picked him up and stuck him in my bag of groceries of course. He didn't stay there. Sighing! So I am driving home visualizing being eaten by a 4 inch male Praying Mantis (in relating this story to my husband, he once again explained to me that distracted driving is dangerous Smiling ) because he (the Mantis, not the Husband) has crawled out of my grocery bag and is sitting right by my arm on my flowery handbag. These things bite! Just ask DD#2.

We made it home, both in one piece. Last I saw him, he was sitting in a branch of my little Baby Blue Spruce.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming...."WOW What a Ride!!" -Mark Frost

Daisy, your mantis story was really funny to me because the biting part made me think of my husband's reaction every time he sees a lady bug... he swears he has been bitten by the Asian lady beetles that were introduced some years back and practically breaks out in a cold sweat whenever one lands on him. Which is fun, because I can threaten him with them... Big Grin . Oddly, he isn't bothered if a dragonfly lands on him.... Shrug!

Cool that you saved that mantis -- I haven't seen one here in years!
