There is a small bloom on it.

The tree is a SASSAFRAS !! Thank you so much for replying. The leaf color is quite beautiful ~

That's the terminal leaf cluster and bud of Sassafras (Sassafras albidum), showing the beginning of some nice fall color.

It has clearly alternate arrangement of simple leaves; Dogwood (Cornus sp.) will have opposite arrangement of simple leaves - at least most of the time...
