Today's plant of the day for Sempervivum is Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Lemon Babies').

Spring brings a wonderful almost translucent lemon color to this small semp.

Lynn, wasn't Lemon Babies one of the ones you moved into Bed #15? Is it doing better?

Yes it is Bev. I won't know until next spring and summer how it will do in the new location of full sun. Originally it was in a full sun bed, that is when it had the most beautiful translucent lemon color. In has been in 1/2 day of sun for the last two years and has not shown that lovely color. Thus the move to bed 15. Hurray!

I'm trying to propagate 'Lemon Babies' into a larger colony. It does get a nice yellow(ish) with a nice pink flush. Its colors are beginning to decline a bit now. It suffers in the Winter but recovers nicely with the Spring weather.

Next year that should grow into a lovely colony for you Tim.

I also find that it seems to suffer with our Pacific Northwest rainy season (end of winter and through most of spring).
I tried providing even more chicken grit mulch this fall to see if that will take care of the problem. Next spring will tell.
I also find that it recovers nicely on it's own as soon as the weather warms up and dries out.

Here's what my poor 'Lemon Babies' looked like last Winter. Happy to say they made a full recovery.
