There is one vendor here at Winter Shows whose table is loaded with all sorts of beautiful Phals, all in Sphagnum. The Sphagnum alone makes me ignore that table completely! And surely they were grown across the globe. But, if one were to pick up a plant or two, forget the name and simply enjoy the blooms for the season. If you can manage to take it out of the Sphagnum without setting it back, great!
I personally rather buy Orchids from vendors who grow their own plants, at least from a seedling stage, or are involved in propagation.

@Big Bill

The exact same problem enters every thing they sell. I recently read an article released by China, they want to be known as the imitation capital of the world. In every market. I do custom leather work and a hand tooled leather belt I make would be around $150-$400 depending on length, design, and add one they sell for $20. All the big box stores buy these in bulk and everyone doesn't see the difference in quality nor the difference in price. They expect me to be able to match it. Yup, that's what a wal-mart mentality does. No way to compete ever.

It will never change as they don't understand how it affects our economy nor do they care.

Going off topic for a minute -
Speaking from experience, doing handicrafts is almost always a labor of love, not money. It is simply impossible to place a price tag on an item created in weeks of tooling, never mind the material. Smiling If one truly needs to make a living with such a thing, one must be either lucky to live in a super rich environment or go big by employing a room full of people, stick to designing and let others execute.
I saw your work in another thread, it is truly gorgeous! Thumbs up
