just moved into our new home. I found these plants on the west facing side of the house, where i'd like to plant some other shade loving plants/vegetables but not much space. Thinking whether or not to get rid of these??

West side & shade loving sound like opposites to me.

Would imagine it would depend on the surrounding plant cover, my west facing side of my house is completely shaded from maturity oak ๐ŸŒณ
The south facing side of my house is mostly shaded due to the proximity of my neighbors house, drives me ๐Ÿ˜œ

My husband decided that he's not quite ready to fully retire yet so we just moved back 2 hours north to the Daytona Beach area so that he doesn't have that long commute for work twice a week. Oh, how I'm missing that almost 3/4 acre property with so many mature trees! The house we just purchased here faces south so the backyard and screened porch where most of my container plants will reside is located on the north side and we do have occasional frosts and freezes here ... so moving from zone 10a back to 9b will find me once again having to try to protect plants during the winter. Sighing!

I gave my sister some plants before we moved and left tons more for whoever buys our house down there. I will truly miss the couple of huge Staghorn ferns hanging in the oak trees and the many small ones I'd always find growing on saw palmetto trunks around the property! We had one quite huge and heavy Staghorn that was growing on a wood and wire frame that my husband said I should bring with us to the new house but there's really no shady place to put it and it would not survive the winters so I just left it.

We are getting estimates on extending the current small screened porch but the dogs and I will especially miss our favorite spot at the old house ... the Atrium:

Well that sounds really hard Lin. Did you sell the other place? Or can you go back when retirement happens for real. My husband is having a hard time retiring too. I know you will make this place home, Hope it is fun and happy for you.

Laurie, the plan is to sell the other place but if it doesn't sell quickly, we might lease it out like we did before we moved down there.
