i want to put a row of pyracantha along my back fence to help keep the deer from jumping over. does anyone have this plant in moderate shade area? my space gets dappled sunlight but not much direct sunlight.

Hi Carole, I have pyracantha in a semi shaded area and it is growing well, but deer do eat them all the time, and they can jump over them too. Unless you have a good high fence beside the Pyracantha, you can't count on keeping them out. They easily jump 6 ft fences around our area.

I agree I had pyracantha growing in the shade of Eucalyptus trees.
I agree The deer eat them
I agree Your hedge would have to be about 8 ft tall to keep the deer from jumping over it.

That has been my experience too, Daisy. Not much keeps them out if they want in to the salad bar.
