Bells Of Ireland (Moluccella laevis)

Someone told me that bells of ireland have thorns and that they are toxic if they prick you? I have never heard of that, does anyone know?

I had Bells of Ireland in CA. I got pricked all the time (I hate those things). I'm still here.
