We're babysitting some plants and I don't know what this one is. At first I thought this was a dieffenbachia but now I think more likely a croton. Either way, I want to know for sure. The cats and the dog don't have any plant-nibbling inclinations outside of grass but I don't want to take any chances with toxicity (or damage to the plant)

Thank You! Of all things I found a little mostly-dead vine hidden in the pot. No idea how it got there... never thought I'd weed a potted plant.

HI & welcome! It looks like the vine may have been a Philodendron. If so, it was not a volunteer.

Since you are babysitting the Croton, don't be alarmed if the leaves start to fall off all of a sudden. Crotons tend to do that sometimes.
